Through the initiatives of Dalit Vikas Abhiyan Samiti (DVAS), women, youth, and marginalized individuals have become successful entrepreneurs. With training, skill development, and guidance, they have secured sustainable livelihoods and improved their quality of life — a true symbol of positive social transformation.
Suman Kumari, a courageous member of the transgender community from Mahtthi village, Vibhutipur block, Samastipur, Bihar, faced severe discrimination and social exclusion from an early age. Expelled from her home, she endured years of hardship, humiliation, and emotional trauma, yet refused to give up hope for a better future.
In her early struggle for livelihood, Suman resorted to singing, dancing, and seeking blessings to survive, often facing violence and ridicule. Her life took a transformative turn when Dalit Vikas Abhiyan Samiti recognized her potential and offered comprehensive support — including skill training, beauty parlor workshops, E-rickshaw driving lessons, and help securing a bank loan for financial independence.
Today, Suman drives her own E-rickshaw with pride, earning a dignified living and inspiring others from the transgender community to believe in their own power. Her journey reflects courage, resilience, and empowerment — a shining example of how compassion and opportunity can rewrite lives.
“I never imagined I could live a life of dignity. DVAS gave me not just training, but confidence and respect. Now, I’m proud to support myself — and others like me.”
– Suman Kumari
At Dalit Vikas Abhiyan Samiti, every story like Suman’s is a step toward inclusion, dignity, and empowerment. Together, we are building a society where every individual — regardless of gender or background — can live with pride and purpose.
